April 2011 updates

Projects Update
WebForLess April project updates
As the month has started, it seemed a good idea to try and identify which project we will be focusing on this month. I have broken this down into the projects not on our main site, and of course our main website projects. This first section deals with external projects. You can read the April project plans here.
Webforless Site Projects
WebForLess April project updates
We have some plans for the site in April 2011. We will add a new sub domain for widgets in wordpress. The sitemaps and indexing process with Google continues to receive attention until the old cache and 404 pages are removed. You can read more here.

Sheffield Site Update
WebForLess Sheffield Site Update
Following the quick meeting with Gee, the site is now in the setting up period. We know all the elements that need addressing and we will spend the next two weeks in getting the website ready for populating. You can follow the progress here.
Building Service Update
Building Service Site Update
The building service website is now in the ”creation” process. This is where we are at the moment, and what we plan to do on the short term, and longer term basis. You can read more about it here.

GP Surgery Data Challenge
GP Surgery Data Challenge
Made the mistake of attempting some contact with a public sector employee in the NHS administration side of things. So far the results have not been very good, but I still live in hope. Preparing to ”promote” my quest online, I start the progress update. You can get more details here.
Joomla Map Project
Joomla Map Update Project
Had a meeting with Ewan on the development of the Joomla map project. We managed to iron out some concrete steps for the newt week or two, and I will update here again after that. The current developments are published here.

WordPress widget directory in testing
Wordpress widget directory beta
Our latest sub domain that will be added to webforless site is currently in testing. This site will use a directorypress theme with some new unique features. Read more here.
The Bureacratic Battle
Bureacracy Sucks
As we struggle ;-) to get to grips with the red tape which the NHS is, we have now called upons one of our senior citizens to become involved. This is the start of the quest for Sir Lancelot. There will be more to follow but you can read the start of it here.

WordPress widget directory final stage
Wordpress widget directory finishing off
The technical issues we have been experiencing have now been cleared and the website needs finishing off now, as well as adding some data. You can read the progress and where we are going right here.
The Sheffield web project
Sheffield web project
After a quick visit to Sheffield and a late night session with my partner in crime, we are also in the final stages of the site, and everything that is spread across machines now need tying together. You can get the latest update here.

Maps and Databases
Maps and Databases
The Google Mpas we have developed so far, and those we are still working on, all rely on calling data from the databse to display our info maps. We have some issues, and I have some thoughts that might make an automatic process a bit complicated. You can follow it here.
Turnkey Directory – Need a Trial Run
Using the tutorial
The whole point behind making a quick setup tutorial for a web directory, was to see if anyne can use it and actually get a directory working. Having ”gambled” with some SAFA online I am trying to help a new directory get off the ground in South Africa. Follow my ideas here.

IT Simply from Simon Sez
IT Simply
Having asked an old school coder to do some projects together, he has finally taken the plunge and decided to give WordPress a trial (try). We are working on a social browser idea and he starts the project here. Read the intro here.
Widget Directory
Widget Directory
So I made another directory. So what? ;-) We have tried a new directory displaying the wordpress widget on the same page as the listing. You get a live demo view of the widget we are listing. At least you can see if it works before you install it. Read more here.

Joomla, Jomres, WordPress and maps
Joomla, Jomres and wordpress maps
The project we started with Ewan is going steady and slowly, but the path has now been visualised and left in the hands of the ”coders”. Time will tell if Joomla offers the same functionality as wordpress when it comes to map integration. Follow the updates for the Joomla project here.
Sheffield Site in Progress
Sheffield website getting ready
The Sheffield project is almost ready for publishing. Have done some of the layouts complete now. The maps are read and integrated. The second last meeting will be in Ma, and the site should, subject to another meeting later in the month, be ready to go. Catch the latest here.

Widget Directory Update
Widget Directory Update
Important lessons learnt. When you complete a website finish all aspects of the site before you make the site live. Otherwise you end up having to add all the SEO tags and descriptions in a mammoth session. Also a note, the inbuilt screenshot API used by DirectoryPress is a bit pants. You cannot access sub domains, and any tpe of header with animation etc. offers no screenshot at all. Read more details here.
April and May 2011
Website Progress April 2011
