Latitude Longitude

Latitude Longitude V2

Latitude Longitude, with the wordpress geocding projectThe latitude longitude project we started some months ago will also feature a new front end as from 2012. The start of the mapping experience with WordPress has given us a great opportunity to develop and enhance various web projects. The latitude longitude finder project started off as such an experiment, but has since developed into the corner stone of all our map related projects. It only seemed apt that whilst we were developing different web directory functions for the web directory projects, that we should enhance and improve the original latitude project as well.

Latitude Longitude Functionality

What has changed from the original latitude longitude site? The initial project had a wordpress web directory mashup that functioned as a tool to find the latitude and longitude coordinates of global positions. The ”content” was created by adding new coordinates, and sharing these. The site was never set up to deliver any SEO functionality, and all the SERP results was merely an indication of the lack of similar content online. We have tried to address not only functionality as far as map functions go, but also maximise any potential SEO benefits we could reap.

Without getting into the technical details here is a shortlist of the new site:

  • The latitude longitude coordinates can now be delivered in either decimals or degress mode.
  • You can geocode multiple locations on a single map.
  • You can export the various geocoded addresses by  copy paste function.
  • There is an additional reverse geocoding function.
  • We have included a copy of the geocoding function as a widget.
  • You can still use all the old functions of the old site.

New Map Projects

2012 will see the start of some new map related project development. Some of the new map functions we will be focusing on will be in relation to image searches, and the use of image API with Google Maps. Without getting into too much detail, one of the examples I can use to illustrate the direction we are going is in relation to some of the searches we have already been SERPing for on the Latitude Longitude project. This LINK will show a single post where the images are the search query, and the type of result we can showcase.

In addition to the images, we are also planning some new developments with some additional functionality that will help non technical users make maps for their own websites easy. This will include some image related functions, multiple pin locations and multi user functionality. I will update this site in 2012 once the new domains have been established and some content been added. Forward to find the latitude longitude !
