Adding Content

Whilst we develop the map functions and the design process in directorypress theme, we will also experiment with various ways that you can add content to your website. The directorypress theme already has some pre built functions to add content to your site. These include a CSV import function, and a DMOZ extraction tool as well. Both these are great tools if you are quickly looking to add some links and data to you web directory. There is a downside however.

As you are adding content you have not physically edited, you are at mercy of the data you are receiving. If the CSV data file you have to import is fully completed then great, but if not your listings are going to be quite varied, with bits of data missing and ”empty” boxes. The DMOZ extraction is also quite risky, as most of the time you get barely any data, just merely the url link. The DMOZ tool is a great way of extracting lists of urls you can visit to add to your directory. But you wil have to add the details manually.

Map Data

The address locations are also quite exact. If you do not ensure the correct data is entered, the map can display very varied. If you are using a CSV file with map data on, make sure the addresses are correct otherwise you will have to do some manual changes later.

Quality Content

We are planning a seperate section on where and how you can obtain additional content for your web directory. It is imperative that you add only quality to your web directory, because this is what the users, and the search engines will require. Just having a web directory with countless links in countless categories, without any good content, will not see the directory succeed.

Scraping Content & Automated Content

If you are interested in creating directories (and other websites) by using automated processes and ”scraping” content from other websites you are wasting your time. The only way to get your website filled with quality and controlled content is to have a manual process. You cannot create a website that will rank high, attract visitors and build credibility with any automated process.
