DirectoryPress setup
Setting up DirectoryPress
You have now installed and activated DirectoryPress. Clicking on the administration panel in WordPress to access the theme there will be some messages displayed at the top of the control panel. Depending on if this is a ”fresh” install or not, some of the messages may be different. We have listed the generic messages here.
Reset factory settings
Before you try and change anything, click on the bottom of the messages where it asks you to reset the install to the factory settings. This will add some data etc. but these can easily be removed at a later stage. This just makes life easier.
When you have reset your screen should look like this.
WordPress settings
Almost done. Just two settings to change in WordPress. The first is the permalinks structure. On the control panel for WordPress under the settings tab, click on the permalinks sub tag.
When your screen looks like this, save the changes.
Then click on the settings tab, the sub tag general settings.
Change the membership setting by clicking it. Save changes. Return to Directorypress tab in the WordPress admin control panel.
DirectoryPress setup
To be able to make sense of the directory setup we have gone through all the settings on all the pages within the control panel. Some aspects are really straight forward, but we have still elaborated and tried to explain as best as possible. If you get what the function does, then you can surely skip our guide. This is not the be all and end all of tutorials. This is not the ultimate directory setup guide. This was done to help a couple of friends that wanted to set up a directory and had no IT experience, so it is quick, uncomplicated and free. Good luck.

I have looked to find the videos Mark has created to help with the process of installing and configuring DirectoryPress, but these are his videos shared only on his site. Bummer, i would have added them to my YouTube favourites. You can click here to go to Mark’s video tutorials
I think other site proprietors should take this site as an model, very clean and magnificent user friendly style and design, as well as the content. You’re an expert in this topic!
