WordPress Google Maps
WordPress already offer a range of plugins that incorporate Google Maps. The problem was that we wanted to use Google Maps to display all the locations in the database on a single map. The ”code” to do this is readily available, but the ability to do this without any coding experience seemed rather daunting. Aspects like adding the content you need for the map to the database and integrating the UK postcode system seemed quite complicatedWe have broken the process of creating a Google Map for WordPress down into simple and easy to follow tutorial. You can view the site here.
Google Maps API v3
The newest version of google Maps allows for some great features to be added to your interactive map. Most of these features can be found online in the form of ”code snippets”. We have tried various features and we share all the code for the specific map feature, after integrating it into the site. Of course this might not be the exact list of features you want to see, but hey, it is free and a good start. We have some more innovative ideas around the Google Map feature and will share our ”experiments” here as well.
Interactive Mapping
Maps can be used very creatively. In our first combination of wordpress, directory theme and google maps we have created a one click solution in WordPress. The map allows for us to display data from our database. The ”pins” on the map allows the broser to quickly view the data, and then based on that, click to go directly to the url they require.
Although this ability isn’t groundbreaking, it is amazing to think of what technical knowledge is required to create the ”code” for this feature filled map. And now even users with NO coding experience can actually combine and ”design” their own interactive map. Google have given a unique ability to all web users to create and interact with website users in a very visual manner.
Code Snippets & Site Demos
We have listed some code snippets for Google Map features on our site. We also have a demo site section. Of course we don’t have all the available snippets or great websites with fantastic maps on listed.
If you find one, see one or know of one example that we don’t have PLEASE feel free to add it on our Google Maps for WordPress section. It will only take a minute. No registration, one quick form.

Map Development
One map and one map tutorial isn’t really a new and innovative approach to integrating maps into WordPress. We have also created on this first project a number of other maps. These add additional functionality to our project.
We are also in the process of taking the map development to a new level with some of our current projects and will update our progress on the map tutorial site.
SteetView from database
We have also called a streetview map from the wordpress database. It uses the same fields as the rest of the site, but the results is quite good. The only issue is the pin location on the streetview. We have yet to work out how to custom display every pin at the esact location, with the default view showing the pin.
You can view one of our streetview listings here.
Changing Pin Locations
We had to also create a map that will allow for the editing of street pin locations. This allows for users and listed sites to interact and guide us to the exact location of the specified address.
You can view a working version here.
